Fragile and Other Affinities
Essay, Deveron Projects and Akademie der Künste, 2017
In November 2017, Claudia Zeiske and I attended Fragile Affinities, a conference on restrengthening international artistic collaboration, hosted at Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Delegates from Germany, Poland, Turkey and the United Kingdom shared perspectives, problems and potentials and the responsibilities of cultural workers to retain freedom of expression in a climate of coercion, oppression and censorship.
I wrote up the conference, amidst whistle-stop visits to the Pergamon Museum, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Manaf Halbouni’s Monument, a Le Corbusier living machine, Vöner vegan kebab shop, and other landmarks.
